S-curve in infra projects

S-curve in infra projects

Post by wild_card23 on Thu May 24, 2012 10:50 am

Hi guys,

Need your valuable comments po.

Will an erroneous s-curve (for infra projects) be a ground for post-disqualification? Is this a major or minor issue? May this error be waived by the BAC considering that an S-curve only represents the theoretical progress of the work to be accomplished?

Thanks again

The S-curve is one of the contract documents that must be submitted after the award prior to the execution of contract so it must not be in any way be a reason for post-disqualification.

The "correctness" of S-curve is "academic". Meaning, it is an issue that only college classrooms are particular. I believe it is the purpose and use that is more important than the correctness of the S-curve.

What does S-curve represent? It is an indication of work smoothness and ideal transition of activities. A smooth s-curve is an indication of the optimal execution of resources.

The S curve can be considered as an indicator and it's used for many applications related to project management such as: target, baseline, cost, time etc. That's why there is a variety of S Curves such as:
-Cost versus Time S Curve;(appropriate for projects that contain labour and non-labour tasks).
-Target S Curve;(This S Curve reflects the ideal progress of the project if all tasks are completed as currently scheduled)
-Value and Percentage S Curves;(Percentage S Curves are useful for calculating the project's actual percentage complete)
-Actual S Curve;(This S Curve reflects the actual progress of the project to date)

What is more important is: are entries correct in every cycle? Are we compromising something in our schedule as effected the "erroneous" s-curve? If the error was in "plotting" only, I would say it is irrelevant. But ultimately, it is the requirements of the Procuring Entity that must be considered in deciding whether the s-curve may have an impact in the project.

Hope this helped. Smile
